The SolarEdge S440 optimiser is a device that optimises the energy output of solar panels. The S440 optimiser works by optimising the output of each solar panel individually, as the output of each panel can vary due to age, shade or orientation. When solar panels are connected in a string arrangement, this means loss of yield of the total string.

The optimiser is installed on the junction box of each solar module. The optimiser monitors the output of the panel in real time, by measuring the current, voltage and temperature of the panel. This information is used to optimise the panel’s output by adjusting the DC voltage and current to the panel’s maximum power point (MPP).

The optimiser communicates with the SolarEdge inverter, which then communicates with a monitoring platform that provides real-time data and analysis of system performance. The SolarEdge S440 optimiser also offers additional safety features, such as automatic shutdown in case of a fault or fire, and arc detection to prevent electrical sparks.
